  In our congregation 80% of the servant body (especially Elders) are avid fans and I would say bordering on passionate in the way they talk about sports and the top named athletes.

  Its' not unusal for many of them (Elders included) to take a night off from meeting just to attend a big game. The odd thing is that they are soo open about it. It's not like they keep it secret or private. Believe it or not, recently an Elder about to introduce the next part accidently mentioned a famous athlete by name instead of the brother whose part it was. As far as the Elder Body was concerned it was an innocent mistake! And its' like that through out the circuit.

  You want to talk about Super Bowl parties; I've been to my share of them (Elder sponsored). Thats' why the following openning comment of yours' caught my eye:

  "I always wondered why sports, pep rallies, and cheerleading were forbidden in school for jw children but jw elders, MS, etc., had season tickets to football, basketball, etc."

  There is such a hypocrisy among JWs. It is as though the Elders & the GB are telling our youth 'do as we say, not as we do' when it comes to youth and sports.

  Blondie, this is just another example of "you know what's what" about this religion! Thank you for your insight.

  "What possibly can be the result of protraying all the educators and other students as pagans who deserve to die......What kind of person will that child grow up to be?"

  For one thing, I would say that young JW is going to grow up being judgmental and lack a great deal of humility, sadly, which is how many an adult JW present themselves.

  Recent C.O. visit: Bad news re: U.S. English meeting attendance

  visiting a nearby town during his thursday night service talk mentioned how poor meeting attendance is in the english-speaking u.s. congregations.

  he said that when the gb reduced the weekly meetings from 3 to 2, there was a brief surge in meeting attendance percentages.

  after a few months it began to slide and it hasn't stopped sliding.

  I haven't gotten to paragraph 1 of the lesson when your openning comment catches my eye!

  CNN Update: The Governing Body of the Jehovah's Witnesses religion has just communicated to its members that their years of no blood transfusions and the practices of disfellowshipping and shunning is unscriptual and will no longer be practiced. (oops, sorry, I was just fast forwarding to a history making adjustment by WTBTS!)

  I've noticed a similar lackadaisical attitude in our congregation among R & F and the servant body toward meeting attendance. This is a good sign of "troubled waters" ahead for the WTBTS. Yippee! Serves em' right!

  How big a fee does the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society get for booking Jehovah's Witnesses into Convention Hotels?

  i know travel agents and on-line sites get a kickback or fee for booking hotels.

  how much is this fee?.

  DesirousOfChange: "I suspect their "bonus" is in free rooms for the big-wigs. GB, COs, DOs, Bethel speakers, international delegates (missionaries) all stay for free. I'm sure they get x number of free rooms for x number of rooms booked. Probably 1 for 10."

  I am aware of a number of individuals who render their professional services to various WT conventions and in return they're givin rooms to stay in. I'm sure that is one of many perks in the form of kickbacks (all at the R & F and their familys'expense) that the Society recieves from hotels.

  The WTBTS knows how to work the system for its' own benefits. After shelling out for the hotel, to further extract hard earned money from JW families, the WTBTS sets up ATM debit/credit card stations installed at the convention sites so they (JWs) can yet again fork over their hard earned money.

  The Society truly has a money making racket. How else is it able to have the pink slip on so many properties in the tune of hundreds of millions of $$$?

  And the Bible says that "Jesus had no place to lay his head". HUH!
